Anna's first loose tooth

Then the video camera was full and quit recording.

The tooth fell out on Friday at daycare at the nurse's office. They put it in a tiny treasure box and then we headed out of town Friday night. The tooth fairy flew to Rolla and left four quarters under her pillow. Missing tooth pic coming soon (camera battery was dead).

Carter's dream about me

Carter got up the other morning and I asked him (as usual) if he had sweet dreams?

Carter: Yes. I had a dream about you!

Me: Oh really? What did you dream about?

Carter: You were in jail.

Me: That doesn't sound like a good dream. Why was I in jail?

Carter: Because you were in a taxi and it wasn't your car.

Too much cops, Kevin.

Last Day of Summer - Trip to the Zoo

On Anna's last day of summer before school we headed to the Kansas City Zoo with my BFF, her boy Alex, her brother and her niece and my mom. The weather had cooled off (meaning it was in the 90's and not the 100's) so we could go outside. The new attraction is the polar bear and he didn't disappoint. First he did the backfloat repeatedly, pushing off of the glass. Then they started throwing in fish and we got to see him dive and dive again. It was thoroughly entertaining.

We visited Nikita at the Kansas City Zoo. He was very playful, doing the back float and then diving for fish.

Carter and his BFF. Alex was "woohing" the train sound.

My mom bought these polar bear souvenirs for the kids. They marched into the bathroom after waking up this morning chomping these.

The final days of summer

Can you believe Anna goes back to school on Monday!? She starts first grade. Crazy. We get to meet her teacher tonight.

On Monday when I picked up the kids at daycare I asked what time the bus would be coming.

"The bus is not picking up here this year." the daycare owner told me.

"What!?"

"It's not in the budget. Remember, we told you at the end of last school year?"

"No. No one told me anything."

So it turns out the daycare will be dropping off and picking up the kids. The buses are only stopping if the daycare is within the boundaries for that school.

I'm really frustrated that neither the school nor the bus company said anything. Every year I fill out a form that says how and where she is supposed to go at the end of the day. I don't think they read it or they would know I put the daycare and they aren't going there.

And, no one knows where the daycare vans/buses are supposed to go to pick up the kids. So one of my primary objectives for meet the teacher night tonight is to make sure they put her on the right transportation at the end of the day. The worst thing that could happen is she gets on a bus to go home and no one is there when she gets off.

The daycare owner then proceeded to tell me about last year when a kid who was supposed to go to Creative World (another daycare) ended up getting off a bus at my daycare. He wasn't even supposed to be on a bus because Creative World does pick up and drop off their own kids. She said that when she called Creative World they didn't even know they were missing a kid.

So kids getting put on buses they shouldn't be on does happen. I'm sure everything will be fine, but it's the first day of a new routine, which is a little nerve wrecking.

Today is my last Thursday off where Anna is also off. I sent them to daycare to get some work done this morning and then I'm going to pick the kids up and do something fun for what seems like our last day of summer together.

KC Rail Experience

Last weekend my mom and I took the kids to Union Station to see the Dinosaurs Unearthed Exhibit. As part of our admission we also went to the KC Rail Experience. The kids enjoyed this more than the Dinosaur exhibit.

The KC Rail Experience is located inside Union Station and includes many model railroad trains and historical information. Great for all ages, the cost for this exhibit is sometimes included as a package for attending other events at Union Station.

Dinosaurs Unearthed at Union Station

I took the kids to the dinosaurs unearthed exhibit at Union Station. The attendant told us it would take about 45 minutes to go through but I think the kids were done in about 20. I think the adults enjoyed it more than the kids who were a little scared and stayed in the stroller the entire time. I thought it was pretty cool. The video doesn't really do it justice.

Dinosaurs Unearthed is an exhibit at Union Station during the summer of 2010. It was a little intimidating for the three and six year old who stayed in the stroller the entire time. The adults thought it was pretty cool and enjoyed reading the information. Union Station attendants indicated it would take 45 minutes to go through but we were done in about 20.
